WITH LOVE, WE CONTINUE JON BOX SOX, A WINTER SOCK DRIVE IN MEMORY OF OUR JOYFUL FRIEND AND COLLEAGUE.
Jon Box was a friend, a colleague and a champion of Six Shooter artists and staff, and we miss him dearly. This Christmas, we continue to honour his life and celebrate his many excellent qualities as a human by doing good in his memory. Last holiday season, we worked with artists, labels, distributors, publishers, and independent record stores across Canada and gathered 1094 pairs of socks that were donated to shelters and drop-in centres in over 15 communities across Canada. This year, we're asking friends and family to donate a minimum of $50 to Mission Services London and/or Red Door Family Shelter in Toronto and in return we'll personally ship a pair of 2020 Jon Box Sox to your home.
Since 1982, the Red Door Family Shelter has provided emergency shelter and support for women and children affected by domestic abuse, families experiencing a housing crisis, and refugee claimants with nowhere else to turn. In the early 80's there was only one other shelter operating in Toronto. Responding to the growing need for shelter space for homeless families, the Red Door was opened in the basement of the WoodGreen United Church by a group of volunteers. We have now grown to be one of the largest family shelters in the city, providing shelter and support to over 350 families every year.
Founded in 1951, Mission Services of London is a Christian charity that works to help people struggling with poverty and homelessness in London, Ontario. It provides food, shelter, clothing, crisis intervention, and rehabilitation. Mission Services of London runs five main programs: Community Mental Health Programs, Men's Mission, Mission Store, Quintin Warner House, and Rotholme Women's & Family Shelter. Mission Services of London's Community Mental Health Programs (CHMP) offer different support services to help homeless people, those at risk of becoming homeless, and those experiencing mental health and addiction issues. In F2019, Mission Services made 2,598 referrals by CMHP to community partners. Crashbed is a safe, overnight crisis space that offers food, showers, support services, and referrals. The Men's Mission and the Rotholme Women's & Family Shelter are emergency shelters that provide accommodations and housing stability support. The Men's Mission is a 146-bed facility for men. It operates as both an emergency shelter with 111 beds for men aged 16 and older, as well as a transitional residence with 35 beds for men requiring longer term support. The Rotholme Women's & Family Shelter has a 20-room facility that accommodates families. Mission Services of London's Quintin Warner House is a 14-bed, four-month residential addiction treatment program for males 18 years of age and older. The program includes intensive group therapy, life skills, goal setting, spiritual awareness, and recreational activity. The Mission Store sells clothing, housewares, linens, electronics, books, and more. Mission Services of London gives families and individuals in need free clothing or household articles through a voucher system. In F2019, Mission Services of London provided $265,000 worth of Mission Store voucher goods.
