Get ready to cry to Whitehorse's album release: I'm Not Crying, You're Crying

Whether it’s falling to pieces, being on the road again or protecting your achy-breaky heart, some of the most personal songs ever written are Country. George Jones and Johnny Cash aren’t afraid to tell you that they’ve been through the ringer or humbled by a good woman. Dolly and Tammy wrote about money and divorce, taboo subjects at the time. And Shania’s undeniable pride about feeling like a woman resonates with us all.

"Everybody’s got a thick skin, livin in a hard shell."

Whitehorse, two songwriters, longtime married, have cracked open the heart of their songwriting partnership with I’m Not Crying, You’re Crying, a post-pandemic, post-Country album of personal bests and worsts.

“Come together to fall apart. It’s medicine, no doubt.”

"If The Loneliness Don't Kill Me” reads like a manifesto title for cowboys and long-haul truckers and “I Might Get Over This” is the song playing on their radio. “The Road” yearns and churns with emotion, driving us into the guitar wizardry of Luke Doucet on “Division 5” and “Manitoba Bound”. “Bet The Farm” is an irresistible admission of love told in call-and- answer turns of phrase. “Leave Me As You Found Me” plays out tenderly, as if from the AM dial, circa 1969, and “6 Feet Away” closes in around the post-pandemic heart. The galloping “I Miss the City” unfolds like directions to the Texas roadhouse where the likes of the Vaughan Bros, Billy Gibbons and Sue Foley can still be heard. “Sanity, TN” is as carefree as the breeze in the Valley of the Dolls. “Lock It Down” is just good advice. Album closer “Scared of Each Other” waltzes us gently into more political territory, daring to reach out to the other side in hopes of common ground. Every song on INCYC is steeped in detail, told as stories are passed on over whiskeys in a bar booth with friends.
