TEAR A PIECE: Skye Wallace Sounds Great on "Terribly Good"

In today’s sonic world of genre fluid pop and sample-fueled electro-wave sung by any and every kind of voice, rock music might feel a bit like a campy zombie in the mall. But here’s the thing about rock (and even The Rock): it’s a name that can stand on its very foundation. It’s always going to be there. Solid as a....rock!

The distinction between Ye Olde Rock and the New Rock is perspective: it’s a different set of eyes observing from the other side of the genre, creating a familiar but freshened sonicscape.

Two of those eyes belong to Skye Wallace. (She might just be Alanis for the TikTok generation.) Instead of petty digs about jilted lovers, she’s going after the “good ol’ zombies” of the industry (that's not a direct quote, just topically on brand for Halloween). Without betraying herself, she gives us honest, up-close prose that she dons as armour. She shreds hot licks, brandishing her guitar with Eddie-Munsen-esque heroism. The basslines propel us forward, thumping and bumping along with the classic kit, cymbals smashing.

From the devilishly sharp “Tear a Piece (Bite Me)” to the wall of shred on “Tooth & Nail”, to the supportive and tender “Everything Is Fine”, Terribly Good is bringing a fresh perspective to a classic genre, showing us that in Skye’s world, possibility is limitless if you believe in yourself and rock is never dead when it’s universally understood.
