Sunshine & Darkness:
The Dead South release "You Are My Sunshine" with video
"Everything's better in a minor key." - Scott Pringle
In their reimagining of “You Are My Sunshine,” The Dead South reveal a sinister side to the familiar lyrics, evoking a dark sense of leaving and loss. The classic lullaby is typically a happy tune in a major key, but The Dead South flip it into a minor key, which uncovers a new haunting depth to the nostalgic refrain.
“You Are My Sunshine” is the first single off of the band's upcoming EP Easy Listening For Jerks, Part I, and was their first experience recording the songs separately from their own homes: “Nate had to play these songs completely on his own in his house to nothing and just hope that he could capture and convey the energy despite us not all being there at the same time" (Scott Pringle).
Listen to “You Are My Sunshine” with minor key moments from the dark kingdoms of Billie Eilish, Radiohead, Amy Winehouse, and Leonard Cohen in our playlist.
