You know when you really want to watch a funny video of, say, celebrities attempting foreign accents (or something equally crucial), and your internet is acting all wonky and it won't load properly and it plays all jerky? Story of my life bro! I am not bi-winning here at all!
SIX SHOOTER @ SXSW
This sentence right here was written in the evening of International Women's Day! Woo! We are doing our part by upping the estrogen levels in Austin this year at my personal favorite fest blowout, SXSW. Six Shooter is teaming up with our pals at Starfish Entertainment to produce another fantastic Outlaws and Gunslingers event: Les Femmes Fatales, featuring Jenn Grant, Christine Fellows, Oh Susanna, Kendel Carson and Chip Taylor (we know Chip isn't a femme, but he is still hella fatale, so that counts), Frazey Ford, and Jen Lane - Thursday, March 17, Upstairs at Paradise (Canada House, 401 E. 6th St., Austin) from 8 pm to 2 am.
Jenn Grant is doing the busy bee billion SXSW shows thing this year, and is also performing at the Canada Blast BBQ on Wed, March 16 at Brush Square Park with Buck 65 at about 6:15 pm as well as at the Paperboat Music/Harris Radio party at Betsy's Bar (301 W. 6th St.) at 4:40 on Thurs. March 17.
We are also bracing ourselves for the awesomeness of hosting a long list of Canadian bands at the Six Shooter House of Sin, where XM will be taping mega sessions galore! Tune into XM The Verge (http://www.thevergeonline.com or channel 87) to hear sessions by Jenn Grant, Christine Fellows, Hey Rosetta, City and Colour, Imaginary Cities, Trampled by Turtles, Said the Whale, In-Flight Safety, Great Lake Swimmers, and more. We are gonna smash so many goddamn quiches!
SIX SHOOTER @ JUNOS
This sentence was written on the anniversary of the death of the Notorious B.I.G., the greatest rapper of all time. In his memory, I am listening to the classic album 'Ready To Die' right now at a very high volume, and that skit with all the sexy noises just came on and I'm suddenly quite uncomfortable thinking that my neighbor might be able to hear it through the floor. Egads. RIP Big Poppa.
We are excited that the Junos are held in Toronto this year, and doubly excited that two of our 2010 releases are nominated for these most giant Canadian awards: Justin Rutledge's "The Early Widows" for Roots/Traditional Album of the Year (solo) and Luke Doucet & The White Falcon's "Steel City Trawler" for Adult Alternative Album of the Year. I gotta say, both of these albums are entirely bitchin', so we look forward to seeing Luke and Justin do a running chest bump with simultaneous high-ten when they (surely) both win! Party time! Being that the Junos are on our home turf this year, AKA stumbling distance, and will assuredly be at all these events partying our faces off:
Songwriter Circle: Luke Doucet has been invited to perform at the Juno Songwriters' Circle at Massey Hall on Wed., March 23 with Sylvia Tyson, Lynn Miles, Royal Wood, and host Johnny Reid.
Junofest: Justin Rutledge plays Fri., March 25 at the Horseshoe Tavern; Elliott BROOD plays Sat., March 26 at the Horseshoe Tavern; NQ Arbuckle plays Lee's Palace on Sat., March 26, as do The Beauties and Friends on the same bill, featuring Luke Doucet and many others.
Juno Film Festival: Amelia Curran joins Peter Mansbridge (wait, wha?!) at the Bell Lightbox to introduce "I'm Your Man," a film about Leonard Cohen on Sat., March 26.
Juno Awards: the two slabs of glorious glass that we are up for are given out at a really expensive Gala dinner (oooo, we fancy huh?) on the night before the broadcast Awards... but watch for us anyway on the red carpet, where Justin, Luke, and about 20 of our closest friends will spill out of our stretch Hummer Limo bus, poplin' bottles of Alize and flaunting our swagger. We might not be quite famous or Bieber-ish enough to be interviewed by Ben Mulroney, but we plan to get at least a little air time by paying a baby in a taco costume to lead our charge with Paula Deen riding on it's back.
BEAUTIES NYC RESIDENCY BEGINS
Did any of you see that episode of Gossip Girl with the Sonic Youth cameo? That was pretty wack hey? Oh well, get that paper Thurston, I ain't mad! At least The Beauties are bringing some integrity back to NYC, although I'm sure Blair Waldorf would be appalled by the realness our road worn Canadian pals. The Beauties are holding it down every Thursday night in March with a residency at the NYC mainstay venue Piano's (158 Ludlow)! We've got tons of other bands joining the beautiful Beauties party too, check it:

JENN GRANT ANNOUNCES PRAIRIES DATES IN APRIL
Jenn Grant's Honeymoon Punch keeps on coming back up (I think it was spiked a little too heavily). Since we just can't keep it down, we might as well announce a bunch of dates in Alberta, Saskatoon, and Winnipeg! Woo Prairies! Juno-nominated songwriter Del Barber is joining in to spike the punch even more!
Also, for those in Ontario...Jenn has a few dates coming up this month including the Music Nova Scotia show at the Rivoli during Canadian Music Fest. Check tour dates for more info. I wonder if there is a venue called the Ravioli during Italian Music Fest?? I also wonder if everyone still calls it Italian Music Week?!
THE LADIES AND JIMS TOUR ROLLS ON
Christine Fellows and her touring mate, Shotgun Jimmie, started their tour last week in Winnipeg, with western Canadian dates to follow in March, and Ontario/east coast dates in April. The Georgia Straight in Vancouver recently referred to Christine as a "National Treasure", and frankly, we agree, so make sure you dive into the national ocean and check 'er out!
SARAH MCLACHLAN & FRIENDS CONTINUES
British Columbian superstar Sarah McLachlan continues her Sarah McLachlan & Friends Tour! Sarah is playing the role of Sarah McLachlan, and the role of "& Friends" are being played by OUR friend Melissa McClelland and their friend Butterfly Boucher! Woo! Fwiends!!!
Another great bonus of this tour is all the kids who have been sponsored through Melissa's work with World Vision. 800 people have signed up to help make a difference to the lives of people in Africa and elsewhere through the terrific work that World Vision does. Check out this website here, with photos from Melissa and Luke's recent trip to Uganda to visit their own foster child: http://www.fivedaysinuganda.com
Despite what you might have seen on Portlandia, they are not actually doing any gardening on the tour, although they may smash the odd Sarah McLachlan pi–ata when candy supplies get low. These shows are an awesome intimate way to see Sarah and pals in smaller venues, with songs by all the friends involved, as well as a Q&A segment and hella chill vibes.
Our longtime pal Luke Doucet is also playing in the friendly friend band on this radical tour! On a recent epic pub crawl in Edmonton (true story), I noted to Luke that, given his current hair length and Sarah-tour blazer attire, he is looking a lot like Lawrence Gowan these days (not a diss, we all have our Gowan days). Upon doing further research (ie. a google image search which yielded this gem: http://www.cbc.ca/lawrence-gowan.jpg) , I am ready to concede that Luke really needs to upgrade his blazer to leather if he wants to complete the look.
SIX SHOOTER CONCERT SERIES IN ONTARIO
We are Six Shooter! We loves muzikz! As such, we are presenting a radical concert series in the popular Candain province of Ontario! For those of you who live in London, Kingston, Hamilton, Waterloo....stay tuned! We've got something great cooking!
