Know what totally rulz? THE INTERNET! Man, it is the most bitchin' LOL factory everrrrr! I can't believe that I never used to have an outlet for watching videos of a dog doing the Merengue, or a naked dude getting turned into a hay bale (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__Co6GAaXFw )! Life must have been so empty for me!

STEEL CITY TRAWLER TAKES LUKE DOUCET ALL OVER THE GLOBE

Wanna know who is totally freaking out about how awesome Luke Doucet's new album is? Me, that's who! I’ve been bangin' this record on repeat, and it is a bonafide magic kiss of an album. I am very proud of that little munchkin, for making such a fantastic rock and roll album. Well done, Luke! The artwork for Steel City Trawler rules too, with a tactiliciously satisfying embossed cover, and an amazing comic book booklet illustrated by David Collier (www.davidcollier.ca). Of course, I'm not the only one freaking out about Luke's new album. In fact, when Steel City Trawler dropped, the press went so bananas that it was like a scene from 1992 Disney musical Newsies (the only difference being that the press excitement surrounding Luke's record didn't make me want to barf). He landed front-page coverage on the National Post, the Globe and Mail, the Ottawa Citizen, and biggest of all, the Hamilton Spectator, who ran a ginormous article that spanned three or four pages, and then all of the music writers from those wonderful publications flooded the streets in song and dance. In other words, all of the reviews have been glowing, and they're still popping off strong! Get your copy of Steel City Trawler today, boss!

Luke is going to be rocking his epic jams at a bunch of shows starting tonight in Los Angeles at the Hotel Cafe. Other USA stops include Nashville, Atlanta, New York, and more. Then he is off to Europe, playing in Blue Rodeo as well as opening a number of the dates, followed by his own headline tour of the UK. We are also excited to announce Luke's Canadian national tour in November. Holy moly, it's gonna be easy as heck to catch Luke in your neighborhood! Tickets go on sale on September 10, and are available on our website.

NEW BOOK BY DAVE BIDINI

I'm sure that all of you know by now that our pal Dave Bidini is not only a Canadian music legend (yeah, that's right, we said it), but also a fabulous and accomplished author. He has just dropped a new book, entitled Home And Away, in Search of Dreams at the Homeless World Cup of Soccer. In 2008 Dave Bidini accompanied Homeless Team Canada to the Homeless World Cup in Melbourne, Australia. As he watches team members play and shares their disappointments, frustrations, joys, and triumphs, he comes to care deeply about the players 45-year-old Billy, who is a former addict; the quick-footed 24-year-old Moroccan immigrant Juventus, who refuses to talk about his past; and most of all, the endearing teenaged Krystal, who carries a photograph of her long-dead mother and dreams of a better life. Bidini gets to know the other teams at the World Cup and describes the games themselves, culminating in the final between Canada and Malawi and a chance for the talented Krystal to join a soccer team in Holland. Bidini also begins to understand what this tournament means to people. He sees firsthand the power of sport to transform the lives of those on the edge how the decision to play this game can mean the difference between survival or heading down a road of addiction, poverty, or crime. Home and Away offers a powerful look at the poor and dispossessed, from the barrios of Mexico City and the shanties of West Africa to the streets of North America and Europe, and illuminates the renewed meaning that these homeless players find in the beautiful game. It rules, bro.

The book drops on Sept 11, Dave's birthday! Of course, Dave Bidini's literary pursuits continue to exist with his life as rocker dude, and along with his book launches and readings, he is also actively gigging and recording with Bidiniband. Check out the tour dates section for upcoming info about both his musical and literary activities.

SIX SHOOTER IS NASHVILLE BOUND

While the Toronto International Film Festival will be tickling eyeballs in Toronto (duh), we'll be tickling earholes at the Americana Music Awards in Nashville, TN. We are perpetually stoked to be co-hosting the 4th Annual Outlaws & Gunslingers luncheon/showcase with our lovely pals at Starfish Entertainment. This year, our killer line up includes Justin Rutledge, Oh Susanna, Chip Taylor, and The Beauties. The luncheon is for Americana Music conference delegates (ooooo, exclusiiiive), but anyone and everyone in Nashville is invited to check out The Beauties at The Basement - the set is 10 pm on Thurs., Sept 9, and best believe, they will rock it!

THE BEAUTIES ROCK TORONTO

Just before The Beauties head down the highway to rip Nashville a new one, they first treat Toronto record-buyers to a freebie concert at Sonic Boom TONIGHT at 7 pm. Then, upon their triumphant return from the Volunteer State, the Beauties are gonna get all cool-for-back-to-school by blowing the roof off of the Horseshoe Tavern for a full weekend stand of Finder Binders and number 2 pencils on Sept 17 & 18 (although I suppose kids today probably just use the Finder Binder iPad app, and some sort of voice memo pencil thing, the times they are a changing). Simone Felice (of the Felice Brothers) supports both nights, Bidiniband joins in the fun for one night, and Dustin Bentall joins the gang on the other. Kapow!

ROYAL WOOD ROCKS CANADA

Just back from Iceland (which, from my view out of an airplane window anyway, is significantly less icy than Greenland, go figure), where Royal Wood shot a second video from his bitchin' album, The Waiting, this time, if I recall, for the song, Do You Recall, Royal barely stops for a minute, just long enough to whip up a batch of instant grits, before heading east to play a few shows for his Hurricane-addled buddies. He returns home just in time to perform a concert at the inaugural Festival Music House, a three-night affair for the glitzy red carpet traipsing folks in town for the Toronto International Film Festival. Then he dashes off to NYC for a show at Googies (upstairs at the Living Room, not to be confused with Yahooies or Alta Visties). Then the real work begins! Come October, in all it's multi-colored leafy glory, Royal hits the bricks with west coast siren Hannah Georgas, with shows from Victoria to Montreal and every stop in between. See TOUR DATES for the full details. Tickets are now on sale at various outlets, including www.sixshooterrecords.com

AND SO DOES CHRISTINE FELLOWS

Christine Fellows is also working it out like a mathematician, with dates penciled in for appearances in Ontario and Manitoba this fall, as well as a play at one of our fave venues, Wakefield QC's Black Sheep Inn. This tour features the Correction Line Ensemble, a 6-piece ensemble featuring piano, cello, violin, electric guitar and marimba/percussion, featuring performances and repertoire by Christine Fellows, John K. Samson (The Weakerthans) and American composer Robert Honstein. Tickets go on sale Sept 24, with full tour announcement coming shortly.

Our Vancouver and Winnipeg friends should also mark their calendars for March, when Christine heads your way for appearances at the similarly abbreviated VECC and WECC respectively. These are the first dates announced for her CD Release tour...stay tuned for more info on her fine new release.

JUSTIN RUTLEDGE, AMELIA CURRAN, AND JENN GRANT ROCK THE WORLD

On the heels of a show at Hotel Cafe on Sept 9 with his side project, The Early Winters (I am personally hoping this band name is not prophetic, as I wanna surf tha heat wavez as long as I can), and then an overnight plane to Nashville to play our Outlaws & Gunslingers luncheon, Justin races home to perform some rippin' jams at a concert at the aptly named Junction Arts Festival in his home neighborhood of the Junction in Toronto.

Then it's off to Europe with labelmate Amelia Curran (they are both on a REALLY COOL LABEL btw), both of whose albums are released there this month (Amelia's Hunter, Hunter on Sept 6 and Justin's The Early Widows on Sept 13). They've been getting a ton of airplay on various Americana stations all over the continent, and scores of rave reviews, so y'know, it should totally rule and such when our British friends have a chance to see them live as they tour the UK starting Sept 21.

Justin's national Canadian tour, starting October 14, is now on sale. The western Canadian dates all feature the lovely Jenn Grant, which is of course a killer combination of the highest order!

Amelia Curran heads to beautiful Florida this weekend to play a couple of hot shows, not the least of which is for WMNF, a wonderful radio station who named her album the #1 Album of 2009. Before jetting off to Britain with Justin, Amelia stops at home to play the Company House in Halifax, and something tells me that Company's coming! Lol! Apres ca (bilingual steez), she and her east coast buddy Rose Cousins have just announced a tour of Ontario theatres starting November 16. You'll laugh, you'll cry, etc. Tickets go on sale September 27.

AND SHOUT OUT OUT OUT OUT, TOO

It's no secret that Shout Out Out Out Out love synthesizers, and especially the legendary Moog synthesizers. So stay tuned for an exciting announcement.

In September, Shout Out Out Out Out play a handful of dates in Western Canada, including a few Alberta and BC plays, including appearances at Vancouver's Olio Festival, and Victoria's Rifflandia Festival. They're also heading eastbound in November, after which they holler at their hometown of Edmonton with a show at the Starlite Room as part of AMIA's Untapped Alberta Showcase. Full tour dates and details are below in the tour date dungeon of this newsletter (it's pretty cozy for a dungeon).

Shout Out Out Out Out have recently been immersing themselves in their writing process, and will be showcasing a couple of brand new jamz at these upcoming shows, alongside favorites from their two synth soaked albums.

GOOD LOVELIES SPREAD THE CHEER

Good Lovelies self-titled Juno winning album is distributed by Warner as of Sept 28, and their Christmas album, "Under The Mistletoe", is a certified icebreaker that will be available as of Oct 5. They have just announced a relentless performance schedule, including a full Christmas tour, throughout Nov/Dec. Bringing mistletoe to the shows does not guarantee that you will get smooches, but it seems realistic to assume that it will probably help if you happen to meet someone at a show who also seeks smooches. Y'know, I had this awesome idea for a Christmas album that I was holding onto for years called Jingle Farts (based on the hit sensation Jingle Cats), that would feature songs like 'Deck The Halls With Dingle Berries', and 'Silent But Deadly Night'. Kinda stupid, I know, but I'm sure I could've made a milli off of novelty stores alone... unfortunately I waited too long and someone else beat me to the pungent punch, I saw an ad for a Jingle Farts album a couple months ago and was crushed. Total bummer (no pun intended), I guess I should have carpe'd the ol' diem hey?
