SIX SHOOTER AT SXSW

We're a bunch of busy little bats, taking Austin by swarm this year (bats do that in Austin, ya know), and getting tangled in your hair. Descending upon SXSW in record numbers, we're totaling a crew in the double digits, hosting XM Radio at our Six Shooter HQ & Rancho del Radio (we're renting a mega party house! Yayee!), co-hosting our annual Hootenanny with Mint Records, and wrangling the musos on 6th Street. Just like Paul Wall, we've got the internet going nutz with word of our Six Shooter Records label showcase, featuring NQ Arbuckle, Elliott Brood, Christine Fellows, Luke Doucet, Jenn Grant, and honorary member, Melissa McClelland. Meanwhile, our boys Shout Out Out Out Out will be rockin' their own house party at Beauty Bar down the street. We are seriously freaking out about the trip to Austin next week, SXSW is always one hell of a great jam!

Thurs Mar 13, 2:00 - 6:00 PM
Six Shooter/Mint Hootenanny @ Headhunters (720 Red River)

Thurs Mar 13, 11:30 PM
Shout Out Out Out Out @ Beauty Bar

Sat Mar 15, Six Shooter Records label showcase @ the Velveeta Room (6th & Neches):
8:00 Melissa McClelland
9:00 Jenn Grant
10:00 Christine Fellows
11:00 Elliott Brood
12:00 Luke Doucet
1:00 NQ Arbuckle

Our artists are playing a whole wackadoo of shows during this year's festival, so please make sure you scroll down the page a bit and check out the complete appearance schedules of all the other parties and broadcasts our artists are doing in the tour dates below. And in the meantime, you can slam a vicarious tequila with us via youtube: http://www.youtube.com

JENN GRANT ROCKS CMW

After finishing her giant load of laundry post touring with Hayden (touring makes everything you wear smell like a hamster cage), The Weakerthans and Great Lake Swimmers, and a weekend at the ECMA's, Halifax songstress Jenn Grant readies herself for CMW + SXSW (she called us up and asked us to book her for any shows that are only made up of consonants). How is she still standing after this insane gigging schedule? Tons and tons of wheat grass shots? An inspirational photo of Garfield hanging out with Rick Hansen to keep her motivated through the day? False promises of a dental plan if she hits 200 shows in a year? I guess we'll never know! The Indie Awards-nominated lady double books the Rivoli to play the Paquin Showcase, Thursday March 6 @ 10 pm, and rocks again at 11 pm Saturday night for the Music Nova Scotia evening. She'll be all go-go, boots'n'all, in Austin the following week. Then she will sleep for a month like the rest of us... or will she? For all the dance-card moves, see tour dates below.

HAWKSLEY WORKMAN SELLS OUT SHOWS RIGHT, LEFT AND CENTRE

HW kicked off his national tour last week in Ottawa, where every seat was sold well in advance. Like, every single seat in Ottawa, not just the show! There were a lot of Ottawanians with sore legs after a couple days of Hawk shows. With similarly packed houses across the country, it's going to be a great tour - especially with the loads of bitchin' new merch accompanying him. The Hawk will be hawking hoodies, t-shirts and slammin' posters, designed by the amazing Chad Vangaalen. Joining Hawksley and Mr. Lonely on tour are Jesse Zubot on violin, Dave Christensen on the bass clarinet (and a score of other instruments), and Ruth Cassie on vocals. Check tour section for when they hit your hometown.

JUSTIN RUTLEDGE NEW ALBUM

The sun might still rise in the east, but Parkdale's prodigal son returns from the west with a Juno-nomination, a slew of tour dates and a new album. Kicking off his US/Canadian tour with Kathleen Edwards, Justin will also launch his third official and highly anticipated release, "Man Descending" , which hits the streets April 8, just days after his jaunt to Calgary to soak up the Juno madness. We are definitely going to have a whole lot of very long phone meetings with Justin to discuss his awesomeness while other Six Shooter artists wait on hold (sorry gang, that's just the way it is). All touring info-sho' listed in tour section, yo.

LUKE DOUCET IS A WORKER ANT THAT MAKES THE GRASSHOPPER LOOK STUPID

Since Luke's been a little behind on his blog entries (he's been having trouble taking a photo of himself where his hair swooping just right over one eye while he puts on his sexiest emo pout), we'll fill in the gaps for you. During his week off from the gianormous (that's even bigger than hugemungous!) Blue Rodeo tour, Luke flew to Montreal from Moncton where he rocked his bilingual tongue performing on Belle et Bum (the Letterman of Quebec) and some commercial and college radio stations. He then flew in to Toronto to open for the "Beautiful" (not to mention "super hunky", and "tenderly sensitive") James Blunt. Then flew back to Montreal to surf more media waves. Then made like a long haul driver and turned up in Toronto for his very own CMT special and Canada AM coffee break. Phew! Following which, he pulled double duty playing with Sarah McLachlan at the ACC while almost simultaneously hitting the stage with Blue Rodeo at Massey Hall. (Did we mention that he did all this with a healing broken thumb? He won't be declaring any thumb wars for awhile). Luke hits the ground running all the way to SXSW and back for his upcoming shows in Montreal/Ottawa/Toronto. On the horizon is a tour of duty in Europe with Oh Susanna and dates in the states in May. And breathe.

CHRISTINE FELLOWS MAKES ROAD WAVES WITH THE WEAKERTHANS

The four-star magnet / magnate, Christine Fellows, will be spending the next few Saturday nights on the road with hometown homies, The Weakerthans, as they tour the USA this March and April. Christine takes her "...slyly unpredictable, rarely self-serious, and unabashedly tuneful" music down to SXSW, where she'll party with SPIN Magazine crew in light of their recent 4- Star review. After her own stellar performances during SXSW, including Leanne Zacharias' Tequila Recital, the NXNE/R3 BBQ, XM Radio tapings, Six Shooter's Hootenanny and their official showcase, Christine hops the bus with the Winnipeg rockers, whose dates are listed below. Holy geez, our artists are performing machines! What's next, a hang-gliding tour to Mars????!

SIX SHOOTER LOVES KATHLEEN EDWARDS

We have such a huge crush on country-crooner Kathleen Edwards that instead of sending her flowers for the release of her new album, we're sending her three of our finest songwriters. It's an onslaught of handsome when Royal Wood, Justin Rutledge, and Luke Doucet all take their turn on upcoming concerts with the leading lady. Hopefully she reciprocates and send them back to us un-harmed! We need our daily dose of swoon too! See all tour-mate-dates section.

ST. PATRICK'S DAY FUN

We won't have ten minutes to recover from SXSW and wham, we are hit with St. Patrick's Day. I donÍt know how our livers will be able to handle even a thimble full of green beer after a week in Austin, but we'll find a way!!! Back at the 4-leafed clover ranch in Toronto, Soccer Mom star Jason Plumb kicks off the day with a performance of his Saskatchewan Roughriders-inspired song, "Paint the Whole World Green" on Canada AM, and caps off the evening with a set at the Horseshoe during Mary Margaret O'Hara's annual shindig. Resident Six Shooter good sport, Reuben, has agreed to wear a Leprechaun outfit for the entire day, and will be speaking in an authentic-ish Irish accent as well. What a great guy!
