RHEOSTATICS (ROBOTS IN DISGUISE) UNLEASH 2067
Does anyone remember that awesome transformer that turned into a ghetto blaster, and he had his little transformer buddies that turned into cassette tapes? Man, that thing was sweet. I always wanted one of those (I also wanted the little remote controlled robot that had a little mic in the controller so that you could make it talk. I knew this dude who had one of those AND a swimming pool, it was totally unfair). Anyway, I had this weird dream a couple nights ago in which Martin Tielli was one of those awesome ghetto blaster transformers and the other Rheostatics fellas were the cassette tape transformers, and whenever Martin would pop one of those suckers into his gut a different song from the new Rheostatics album would blare out of his ears. Dude, it was like watching the future in my mind. Then the dream turned kind of gross so I went back to that dream where I am that guy on the cover of the "metal for breakfast" compilation eating the big bowl of steel ball bearings with milk. In that dream I keep yelling, "Is this soy?!" in this weird Rob Halford-ish voice.
What I am getting at of course is that after a two-week delay to fix a printer/colour error ("we said NEON black damnit!"), the Rheostatics new album officially hits the streets on October 19th, the same day the band starts up its first ever West Coast Green Sprouts Music Week in Vancouver! Woo!
As reported in our last newsletter, the new Rheostatics album is a forward thinking synthy masterpiece entitled 2067. When I try to envision the year 2067, all I can come up with is flying roller skates (whoa!) and transformers that turn into ghetto blasters (see above). The Rheostatics on the other hand have a much clearer vision in which, ahem, "William Shatner Jr. is Prime Minister, Toronto has been renamed Bonertown, and Newfoundland overlords stage gladitorial death matches pitting Doug and the Slugs versus primordial Celtic slimebeasts". Yep, total weirdos.
See "Tour Dates" section for the deets on the Rheos' upcoming shows, which also includes info on their in-store (their only Vancouver all-ages show). Also, watch for the Rheostatics on Vicky Gabereau, which we're told will air on Oct. 21.
RHEOSTATICS 2067 CONTEST!
Ok, so Rheostatics drummer and super producer Micheal Phillip-Wojewoda has devised a devious math question with which to challenge you. The first person to send us the correct answer to this equation will receive a new Rheostatics t-shirt and a cd. Ok, let's begin:
Find the title to the Yes album released in 1983.
Find the title to the Van Halen album released in 1986.
Find the title to the Rush album released in 1976.
Find the title to the NEW Rheostatics album released in 2004.
Then simply:
Divide Van Halen into Yes then add Rush and finally subtract Rheostatics. Send us the answer.
JUSTIN RUTLEDGE
Our boy Justin has been getting some pretty stunning reviews from the fancy schmancy magazines. Here are some quotes:
"Rutledge is a master of gothic understatement" from UNCUT
"an incredible breakthrough" from NME
"A work of aching beauty" from the INDEPENDENT
"Rutledge is an incredible master of gothic aching, breakthrough and understatement...beauty!" from Nik
Justin hits the road with Neal Casal right away in the UK (hey, that rhymes!). See Tour Dates section for the specs.
LUKE AND DANNY'S L'IL ADVENTURE
Luke Doucet and Danny Michel have now finished their most recent touring stint together. Needless to say, they are now bestest pals. They only smashed one van, and Luke was taught the lyrics to every Eminem song through repetition and high volume. Luke took a kajillion photos, some of which may or may not appear on his brand new website. Oh, by the way, did we mention that Luke has a BRAND NEW WEBSITE!? It is quite obviously at www.lukedoucet.com and you should check back often for updates like the aforementioned photos, some exclusive acoustic tracks, contests, and all sorts of other exciting biz.

MARTIN TIELLI KILLED THE RADIO STAR
Martin's totally amazing and moving video for "I'll never tear you apart" will be played on November 16th as part of the 3rd annual Indie Music Video Festival which, in their words, is "A two night festival featuring a fresh crop of 40 plus independent music videos from all over the world, showcasing brilliant cinematography, astonishing animation and the most precise and artful editing that is sure to rock each of your senses. Rarely seen, never seen and must be seen .....". Holy smokes. There are a bunch of bangin' videos being shown alongside Martin's from an impressive and diverse list of artists such as Jaga Jazzist, The Locust, Peaches, a silver mt. zion, KMFDM, and more!
It all happens here: IMVF Toronto , Tues. November 16 : IMVF (Pt. 1) 9pm (Pt.2) 11pm at the REVERB-651 Queen St.W. http://www.thebigbop.com
Martin has become so comfortable with the modern video age that he will also be releasing a video for "Merry Christmas, Sergeant Kraulis" as soon as the first snowflakes hit the ground. Be sure to request the pants off that video once it drops! In related Martin-video news, The Rheostatics will soon be filming a video for the song Tarleks off of their brand new album. Martin may or may not also be creating a web-cam video site where you can watch him make 30,000 waffles over the course of a month. We may have made that up or dreamt it or something, but the point is that he is going to be featured in many videos in the coming months, which is very exciting to us.
