RHEOSTATICS IN FALL NATIONALS HI-JINX

After a bitchin' tour out west, the Rheostatics return home for a pile of shows in Ontario, mostly Toronto (see tour dates section below) as they gear up for the fourth annual Fall Nationals at the Horseshoe Tavern, Nov. 11-20. The fall nationals are truly bananas, last year was so much fun. Be sure to not miss this year's Killer Thursdays (co bills with By Divine Right on Nov. 11 and with Danny Michel on Nov. 18!). Teens, grannies and families are welcome to attend Sunday's All Ages show, which starts at 4 pm. Back by popular demand is Guest Vocalist Night, this year on Wed. Nov. 17. We are also pleased to welcome back the chortle-worthy comedy troupe, The Imponderables, who will have you grasping your sides with glee on Fridays and Saturdays. And we're pleased to welcome the Buttless Chaps to join us on our last weekend, completing this tour's Buttless Chap sandwich. What I mean to say is that the Rheos started the tour with one cheeky bit of butt in Vancouver and now they will be ending the tour with another cheek in Toronto, which isn't to say that the rest of the tour was the...oh, never mind.

On Saturday, November 13, The Rheostatics will also play an in-store performance at Sam The Record Man on Yonge Street at 2pm.

Get this, yesterday, the Rheos filmed their video for the song "The Tarleks" from their new album 2067. Here's the stinger: Frank Bonner, who portrayed WKRP IN CINCINATTI's Herb Tarlek, agreed to be in the video as Herb Tarlek! Did you catch that?! Herb Tarlek is in the video! Holy crap that rules! Apparently, Mr. Bonner gets requests for appearances all the time and for the most part says no, but when he played the Rheostatics "Tarleks" track for friends they all thought it was fabu and hilarious so he agreed to join in the fun! You should have seen him on set (you will eventually, of course, but for now see pictures at www.rheostatics.ca), that dude is a serious pro.

CALCULAMATIONS

Wow, the response to the Rheothmatics Mathstatic contest was overwhelming! Hundreds of hopefuls hopped on their abacuses (yes, the plural of abacus is indeed abacuses, I actually looked it up to make sure), and most of the participants even got it right-ish.

The correct answer was, of course, 62.5! here is a breakdown of the digit rock:

a. Yes album: 90125
b. Van Halen album: 5150
c. Rush album: 2112
d. Rheo's album: 2067

90125 divided by 5150 = 17.5
17.5 + 2112 = 2129.5
2129.5 - 2067 = 62.5

The contest winner was Tom "smarty pants" Woods of Vancouver, who calculated the answer within a couple of minutes. Tom is a bonafide rock and roll lawyer, which, as far as we know, means that he does lawyer stuff but still finds time to trash hotel rooms with his buddies.

WEBSTORE CHRISTMAS SPECIALS

Has anyone noticed that the day after Halloween all the supermarkets put out their Christmas stuff? That seems ridiculous to me, but hey, who am I to mess with the status quo? The Six Shooter webstore will soon be offering special deluxe package deals from all of our artists, as well as exclusive Martin Tielli Christmas card sets! Just in time! Speaking of Christmas, I would like to take this time to warn our readers that squashing a mandarin orange into a glass of vanilla vodka does not actually taste the same as a screwdriver...trust me.

LUKE DOESN'T HAVE SAGGY KNEES!

Six Shooter Records and the dashing (I am particularily fond of refering to him as a baby faced phenom, but dashing will do in this case) Luke Doucet graced last week's edition of Billboard in a full colour half page article (thank you Larry!), and our little label that could is about to appear in Canada's music export mag, Applaud, as one of Canada's top indies (thank you Richard!). Yay! Next thing you know, Luke will be on the cover of Star magazine, and everyone will feel better about themselves knowing that they aren't the only ones with saggy knees (not that we're saying Luke has saggy knees, but Star is particularly good at finding all the important and flattering angles).

JUSTIN RUTLEDGE RELEASED IN SPAIN

I like the headline to this section, because it sounds like we've been keeping Justin in a cage and we are finally releasing him and his voracious appetite on the unsuspecting citizens of Spain. Isn't that romantic? I don't think we actually have a single person on this list in Spain, but you're probably all dying to know that Justin Rutledge's awesome debut, No Never Alone, is now out in Spain! So let us be the first to say "El perro es grande y negro!!!" Dude's record was released through Everlasting Records on Nov. 1st. The last time I was in Spain, I bought a six pack of cerveza at the super mercado for under two bucks, which is obviously a wonderful, wonderful thing. Yay Justledge!

Oh yeah! Justin is also going to be playing an in-store at the Rough Trade shop in London, those of you who are kicking it on a London tip should go check it out! It's at the Covent Garden shop at 1 pm on Saturday, November 6th. Rough Trade have been a vocal supporter of Justin's album since its release in May on Shady Lane, and for that they get our official seal of niftiness.

WYNTERS MURDOCH OVERDRIVE

Co-producer Alex "call me James" Murdoch will have to go to Los Angeles by himself to mix the new Chris Wynters record (called Skywriting) with Mixer John Whynot. Alex-call-me-James is already suffering from separation anxiety from the mere thought of being so far away from Chrissy-Whissy, but he will just have to adapt since the silver screen is tearing the two apart (as it tends to do). You see, Chris himself will be busy flexing his thespian muscles in a Dreamworks/Turner Broadcasting TV production called "Into the West". It takes place in the East...just kidding, that would just be silly! It's a principal role, which means that he'll have a bigger trailer than most, but not as big as the leads, and that his trailer has to have a TV in it (???). My suggestion would be that he wear one of those hollowed out TV set hats, a friend of mine did that on Hallowe'en, and let me tell you, it was hi-larious. It looked like his face was on TV! Ha ha! In any case, Chris has to b one up on his horseback riding, rhinestone wearing, whiskey swilling, varmint stomping, and western accent, so Jameslex is off to L.A. alone. Dig?

LUKE DOUCET WISHED HE WAS AMERICAN

So, a couple days ago Luke wished he was American and wrote a song about it. I'll bet ya he doesn't have the same wish today. Go to www.lukedoucet.com and listen to the exclusive acoustic track and wish along with Luke that more of our American neighbors had voted differently. It's going to be a long four years.

NEW WORD ALERT...SORT OF

New word alert...sort of

So, the other day I was looking at the word "Romans", and it struck me for about half a second that it should maybe be "Romen". Now, I know that Roman really just means "from Rome" or "of Rome", or "in the style of Rome", and doesn't actually refer to Romanity, but come on! The plural "Romans" generally does refer to humans from Rome. Wouldn't it be rad if the plural was Romen? Or at least Romyn? Doesn't Romans sound a little silly? Who wanna mob wit? me? So yeah, I guess the new word is really just a new plural for those with the patience to explain what the hell they are talking about when they try to use it in conversation. Try these if you dare:

Romen
Romanity
Romyn
Wromen

That's all for now, so skeedaddle!
Beauty on and giddyup,
Six Shooter Posse

Title track: I couldn't help but put another lyric from "The Tarleks", track 4 from the Rheostatics' latest release, "2067".

This was Six Shooter Bullets--Vol. 1, No. 7

Life is too short to listen to shitty music.
