Hola! We've got two lists going now (one for the label and one for the management company), and so some of you might be on both (lucky dogs).

In this issue:

  1. Ford Pier is inducted into the Six Shooter posse.

  2. Hot Records releases a toasty Luke Doucet.

  3. Veal wins an AMPIA nomination.

  4. sixshooterrecords.com wants to sell you stuff.

  5. Six Shooter parties on. Oh yes, we party on. We...party...on....

LATEST SIX SHOOTER SIGNING: FORD PIER

We at Six Shooter are thrilled and proud to announce that we have adopted the one and only Ford Pier as one of our very own. Rarely in life does one have the delight of meeting someone as interesting, brilliant, or talented as this dude. He rules like a magic kiss. Ford is known for lending his unique and accomplished musicianship to the absolutely seminal Canadian bands Jr. Gone Wild and D.O.A., and has also spent time in the trenches as part of the bands surrounding Veda Hille and our own Martin Tielli. But it is when Ford follows his own artistic direction that he is particularly stunning. Thematically interesting, lyrically brilliant, studiously arranged, and powerfully delivered, his music is complex, intelligent, wonderful. We are seriously freaking out over Ford's new album, PIER-IC VICTORY, produced by Michael Phillip Wojewoda, out May 11 (ie. OUT NOW!!!). And we're not the only ones...check out Ford's four-star disc-of-the-week review in the Globe and Mail. Yowza.

Ford will be performing at Richard,s on Richards in Vancouver on May 14 (TONIGHT) and May 19. Victoria is up next on June 4 at Logan's.

Yep, he's a gooder (*high fives*).

HOT RECORDS HOT FOR DOUCET'S HOT LOVIN?

Hot Records, the same label who gave Oh Susanna a Hot name in Europe, is set to release Luke Doucet's Hot debut solo album, Aloha, Manitoba. Due out in (Hot) Australia in May and the UK in the Hot month of June. Whoa, that's Hot.

Hot count = 9

AMPIA LOVES TO HATE YOUR LIPSTICK

Kudos to our good friend and enormously talented director Jeremy Chugg on his AMPIA Awards nomination for the Veal video, "I Hate Your Lipstick". All those hours standing around in an unheated bathroom in the middle of the cold Edmonton winter have finally paid off...right?

SIX SHOOTER SWAG FOR SALE

Take a second and visit our newly updated website (sixshooterrecords.com) with its lovely new artwork and oh-so-convenient new e-commerce capability. We will be updating the merchandise section very soon to include such hot items as our very souls...or at least some t-shirts. Buy! Buy! Buy!

JUNO HANGOVER

We're still trying to re-hydrate from the wild party we threw in Edmonton with our pals at Starfish Entertainment during Junofest. Some of the favourite things we witnessed at the Black Dog: Grilled cheese sandwiches served by gorgeous babes! An abundance of Six Shooter/Starfish shot glasses filled with something fruity that made our heads go funny! The Weakerthans, John Sutton wearing very small, very tight leather pants and acting entirely inappropriately! Performances by Veal, Captain Tractor, Bob Egan, Luke Doucet, and Greg Keelor, with a whole ton of guests! It was a really great time, and we love Edmonton dearly.

Oh, and also, congrats to our boys (Steve Carroll & John Sutton of the Weakerthans, and Luke Doucet) who played so well in the Juno Cup hockey thingy. Little known fact: Luke Doucet and Steve Carroll last played together in the Winnipeg City Championships when they were seven year old. Cute!

Beauty on,

Shauna (and Nik)
