Hi Ya!

I hope you're having a great leap year. In this issue:

  1. Luke Doucet brings the REAL upper north side to the pseudo upper north side

  2. Six months of huffing paint with Martin Tielli

  3. Six Shooter Bullets: deejay NikSeven all up in yo' grill!

LUKE DOUCET

Luke Doucet is playing a double bill with Blue Rodeo's Jim Cuddy on Wednesday, March 3rd at Joe's Pub (425 Lafayette- between East 4th street and Astor Place) as part of the Upper North Side Canadian Music Series. Doors @ 9 pm; showtime 9:30. Tickets are $25 (yikes). Sorry for the short notice all you NYC peeps.

Also, Luke just finished recording a live album (many thanks to those of you who came out to the Rivoli that cold January night), which we will release this summer. Stay tuned. Did anyone see Luke wearing leather pants on the grammys? hahaha, hottt!

MARTIN TIELLI

The long wait is over. The second of the Tielli 2003 series (which, at this rate, will be completed some time in 2005!) is being stuffed into pretty little envelopes right this very second. Martin is truly sorry for the long wait on this project. When he got right into it, it became clear that his everpresent pursuit of quality readily eclipsed our original objective of speed. So thanks for your continued patience on this. You won't be disappointed...Martin spent six months on the artwork, and it's amazing. The disc has the four Berlin Cabarets by Arnold Schoenberg on it, recorded by Nick Buzz.

For those of you in central Canada, you can catch Martin live at one of these fine venues:

WATERLOO: Wed. Mar 24 @ the Starlight Social Club, with the Two Minute Miracles. $10/12
HAMILTON: Thurs. Mar 25 @ the Underground, with the Two Minute Miracles $10
TORONTO: Fri. Mar 26 @ the Horseshoe Tavern, co-bill with Luke Doucet, with the Two Minute Miracles supporting $10
ST. CATHARINES: Sat. Mar 27 @ Mansion House $10, with Frank Roy & Rose City All Stars
WAKEFIELD: Thurs. April 1 @ Blacksheep Inn $10/15, with Selina Martin.
MONTREAL: Fri. April 2 @ Café Campus $13.50, co-bill with Blinker the Star
KINGSTON: Sat. April 3 @ Queens Grad Club $13, with Selina Martin

For our friends in the UK, watch for Martin Tielli dates in April (sorry about the cancelled dates in January...we had passportpourri issues).

SIX SHOOTER BULLETS

  • St. Patrick's Day is soon upon us, so we suggest you all migrate to the St. Patrick's Day Capital of Canada... Lethbridge, AB. That's where Captain Tractor is toasting their green beers to all of you on the best day of the year.

  • Veal will do something soon I promise...maybe. They have a couple of UK releases coming out over the next couple months. Watch for dates...maybe.

  • Speaking of Veal, bassist NIK Kozub is flying to Toronto for the weekend to DJ an event called PROVOKE, at Hooch (817 Queen St W, above gypsy co-op) on Friday, March 5th. There will be screenings of a bunch of great indie videos and equally amazing visual art installations. Your CMW wristband gets you in for free. Nik claims he will play nothing but epic bumpin'. daaaaaamn!

Beauty on.
