WANNA GO ON A DATE?
Six Shooter artists are touring like crazy this summer. Nothing says summertime like spending hours on end in a van with a bunch of sweaty dudes! Let's start our summer tour date extravaganza with brand new Six Shooter stunner Ford Pier. Calculate the driving hours between these two shows if you dare:
Ford rocks:
8 July Camrose, AB Stage 13 Festival, MTV Unplugged Stage
28 July Toronto, ON Oasis w/ Geoff Berner & Kris Demeanor
Hey, speaking of Senor Ford Pier... The other day, June 16 to be exact, Ford played a show in Waterloo (oh, how we loooove Waterloo) where he dressed up as James Joyce and read excerpts of Ulysses between songs. This total nuttiness was in celebration of the 100th anniversary of Bloomsday. Bloomsday is neither a celebration of flowers, nor an offshoot of the Doonsbury comic strip, even if the name suggests otherwise. Come on people, do your research! Hey, you know what sucks? Well, let me tell you. It sucks being a kid who spends hours upon hours, days upon days, creating the ultimate Halloween costume, just to be asked "so what are you supposed to be?" by another kid who is supposedly your best friend and should instantly realize that you are dressed up as your idol Jane Siberry (or James Joyce or whatever). Whoa, nevermind, did we mention that ve are on ze tour?
Check out a Weakerthans show immediately!:
15 July Elixir, Kingston, ON
16 July Ottawa Blues Festival, Ottawa, ON
17 July Le Kashmir, Quebec City, PQ
21 July Level 3, St. Catharines, ON
22 July The Underground, Hamilton, ON
23 July Toronto Blues Festival, Toronto, ON
24/25 July Calgary Folk Festival, Calgary, AB
Albertan Princes Captain Tractor are also being swept up by the summer spirit and doing a couple of prairie shows:
23 July Festival of Words - Peacock Auditorium Moose Jaw, SK
25 July Klondike Days Exposition - Northlands Park Edmonton, AB
Rheostatics were so happy about the glorious birth of Canada that they decided to celebrate with a free show on Canada day at Toronto's Harbourfront. That was enough fun to convince the boys to bang off a couple more dates this summer: These upcoming Rheostatics shows are likely not free, but still bursting with amazingness:
7 August Wolfe Island Musicfest Wolfe Island, ON
27 August Marquee Halifax, NS
28 August Evolve Festival Sunflower Valley, NS
Oh, and one more thing! Six Shooter's excitable little brother and Veal bassist, Nik Kozub, has officially launched his brand new Normals Welcome global empire of awesome! Nrmls wlcm incorporates audio production and recording, design and stenciling, marketing, freelance writing, and even a club night where Nik deejays as DJ Nik7. The whole thing was launched on July 1st with the wildly successful first nrmls wlcm club night at the beautiful Victory Lounge in Edmonton, AB. The club night now runs every Thursday and features guest deejays every week. Check it: http://www.nrmlswlcm.com
CHRIS WYNTERS WYNS BEAUTY PAGEANT!
Well ok, it wasn't a beauty pageant so much as a theatre awards thingy, but you get the idea. You see, when Chris isn't busy doing the Captain Tractor thing, he has been known to dip his quill into the ink pot of musical theatre. He wrote this one total banger called "A Winter's Tale", a title which I think is totally hilarious on account of Chris's last name being Wynters and all and it being a tale which he scribed...oh wait, maybe that was intentional...hilarious either way. Anyway, all of these snobby theatre folk have decided that A Winter's Tale is worthy of praise in a whole schwack of ways. So being the stirling personality that he is Chris has been awarded the Elizabeth Sterling Haynes Awards in the following categories: Best Musical (beating out both the respected Citadel Theatre and the Edmonton Opera); Best Score; Best Musical Direction; and Best Independent Production. Jeez, leave some for the rest of us, will ya?
MORE BBQ'S THAN WEEKEND AT NXNE!
Ohhhh, we had a fantastic time at NXNE this year! The entire Six Shooter marketing crew were finally in one place for a few days and we certainly made the best of our time together. Those who were privy to the fantastically successful Six Shooter showcase at the Horseshoe were treated with stunning sets by NQ Arbuckle, Ford Pier (including a hilariously candid masturbation story), and our beloved Luke Doucet. Check the site for photos! We gave away a ton of prizes that night too, including a bunch of the new Six Shooter super swag! speaking of which....
SIX SHOOTER CONTEST!
We want a picture of your championship abs! Ok, well not really, what we really want is a picture of you wearing your brand new Six Shooter belt buckle. The most inventive and unconventional abdomen shot featuring a Six Shooter belt buckle wins a prize pack which very well may include one of the extremely limited "life is too short to listen to shitty music" stenciled posters (done on 12" vinyl records) designed and hand made by Nrmls Wlcm. The posters feature two Martin Tiellis, and less than a dozen were made. If you don't have a Six Shooter belt buckle you can still get one at www.sixshooterrecords.com. Don't worry, we'll wait for you (but not for very long, the belt buckles are limited too!).
WEBSTORE BARGAINS
We love to sell you the things!
This month we are offering a special bargain on our latest release, Ford Pier's Pier-ic Victory, at sixshooterrecords.com. The deal is this...anyone who buys Ford's new Record also gets 5 beans off of a Six Shooter swag purchase. Do you realize what this means?! You could be sporting a flashy new Six Shooter belt buckle for only ten bucks (which would of course also enable you to enter our aforementioned contest), or a Six Shooter teesh for a mere 15 bones, or start that steamy new romance novel you've been meaning to write in your beautiful new Six Shooter notebook for a mere 5 spot!
We also have a few new exciting additions to the Six Shooter webstore, including the Rheostatics’ Whale Music, Harmelodia, and Introducing Happiness, and The Weakerthans’ Reconstruction Site. These albums are all so wonderful, it is truly a pleasure.
OFFICIAL BUSINESS
We are looking for new neighbors! Yay! We love our roomies, but they are movin’ on out. What luck! You are looking for a new office, and we now have an extra one up for grabs. Pack up your miniature basketball hoop and perpetual motion machine and check this out:
OFFICE space for rent. Broadview/Queen, prof. bldg with A/C, security, & janitorial serv. High ceilings, wood floors, large windows, great location. Shared with small record label (ahem). Perfect for 1-2 person operation. $450/mo. incl. high sp. line & fax. Call 416-465-2459.
If you are looking for an office, you really shouldn't pass up this opportunity to hang with the hot bitch mama music hub, now featuring the dishiest gossip in town, even if it is losing two of its dishiest broads. Aaaaaaw, were going to miss Melissa and Heather. Hopefully they'll visit often and give our new office mates plenty of tips on the best way to not get caught smoking in the freight elevator.
Is that it? That must be it.
Beauty on like the wolf,
The Six Shooter Crew.
