Veal readies to launch new album
Martin launches to ready new album
Luke Doucet rocks the frozen tundras of Europe
Six Shooter Bullets * Christine Fellows comes out of hiding * CT still lost in the magical land of musical theatre * NQ opens up The Good * Six Shooter looking for a new posse member
VEAL
The Embattled Hearts, the new Veal album we've been talking about for a year now, is finally ready to hit a store near you. Veal are gearing up to tour like crazy in support of the new record. They'll kick things off with a quick jaunt to London, UK in the last week of May to hang out with their bros at Bright Star Recordings (see below) and lose sleep with their bros at Up All Night Music. Then they get ready to hit Canada in the last two weeks of June, followed by a whole swack of dates in the fall. Phew! Street date for the new album is June 17th. ohboyohboyohboy!
Here are the London dates:
Sun May 25th Spitz Club, E1
Mon May 26th Spice Of Life, W1
Tues May 27th WKD Club, Camden
Weds May 28th Spitz Club, E1
Veal and Sixshooter are very happy to announce that they have signed a UK/European licensing deal with Bright Star recordings. Yay!!! Go here to find out more about this cool label: www.brightstarrecordings.com
Our sources have notified us that Nik has been hard at work developing a new word (finally) that should be released sometime around the same time as the Veal album. Nik has also been sighted moonlighting with the Mulholland-based band The Tom Petty Missile (although his involvement is both dubious and unconfirmed), and he has also been sighted screaming his head off with Edmonton posi-hardcore band The Whiz Kids. When asked for a comment Nik simply replied: "oh yeah, y'know...whatever."
MARTIN TIELLI
The long awaited masterpiece, a year in the making, is....oooo the suspense... still not finished. Perfectionist that he is. Aside from beaver sightings on Dundas St., Martin has done nothing but obsess on the artwork, which so far is a blank sheet of loose leaf paper with a mustard stain on it. Just kidding. It's late already anyway, so I'm going to let him plow away until he's satisfied that it's ready for public consumption. It shouldn't take too much longer, though. We will send out the Subscription Series as soon as they're done. Thank you for your patience and your orders.
For the version of Operation Infinite Joy that will be available in stores, we are going to wait to release that until late August. But for those of you who just can't wait to get a Tielli fix, you can catch the Rheostatics this month:
TORONTO: May 8-10, Horseshoe Tavern.
OTTAWA: May 14, Tulip Festival.
LUKE DOUCET
Relentless touring machine Doucet is now on the road with Oh Susanna in Europe (see www.ohsusannamusic.com for dates). One of the countries they will be visiting is Norway, which Luke is very excited about due to his obsession with Norwegian black metal. He looked so cute getting on the plane wearing his corpse paint, spikey bracelet, and his buried-in-the-backyard-until-they're-covered-in-maggots clothes...awwww. After the Oh Susanna gigs, Luke is doing some solo shows while he waits for his Veal buddies to finish the long swim to London.
Check out Luke alone and afraid in the UK:
BRISTOL: Wed. May 7 * The Bonaventure, 8 pm, opening for Oh Susanna
LONDON: Fri. May 16 * The Twelve Bar
LONDON: Sun. May 18 * The Borderline, opening for Blue Rodeo
LONDON: Mon. May 19 * The Borderline, opening for Blue Rodeo
LEEDS: Wed. May 21 * The (New) Roscoe, opening for Blue Rodeo
BARTON-UPON-HUMBER (Humberside): Thurs. May 22 * The Carnival, opening for Blue Rodeo
DUBLIN: Sat. May 23 * Whelans, opening for Blue Rodeo
SIX SHOOTER BULLETS
CHRISTINE FELLOWS: Christine has been immersed in the dance world for what seems like months (but really, it's only been a couple of hours), and she has emerged triumphant. She's pleased as punch to be back in rock mode, and is celebrating with a slamtastic show in Vancouver on Sun. May 11 at the Railway Club, with John K. Samson and Veda Hille. Should be fabu.
CAPTAIN TRACTOR: Christine may have escaped the world of dance, but CT is still rocking hard in musical theatre land (which, by the way is a land full of fluffy bunnies and rivers of chocolate...but don't piss off the evil prince of musical theatre land or he will turn those rivers into bitter lakes of BAKER'S chocolate...nooooo). In addition to the production of Hedwig (where Chris is the musical director and Scott and Jonny both play in the band in really funny glam rock costumes that look a little too natural on them), Chris also launched A Winter's Tale, the musical he co-wrote with Bridget Ryan. Up next for our theatre god is Grease, where Chris plays the part of greasy guy #2.
NQ ARBUCKLE has no intentions of ever performing in a play. But at least you can catch his show on Fri. May 2 at The El Mocambo, opening for the Good Brothers. Little does he know that we've arranged for his set to take place in the middle of a new musical that we like to call Joseph and the Technicolor Ass Clown.
Oh yeah, if anyone wants instant fame and fortune, and wild all night parties every single night (either that or a pile of tedious tasks and stressful deadlines, with pretty much no reward)... we are looking for an intern (read: volunteer)!!! You will get to hang out with the unbelievably charismatic sixshooter staff, and learn all about stuffing envelopes...oh wait...I mean how to run a record label! E-mail us if you live in Toronto and you've got some spare time on your hands.
Beauty on,
Shauna (and Nik)
