NQ ARBUCKLE

Our dear NQ tearfully grabbed the Canadian Music Week Tiara from last year's belle, Christine Fellows, stepping up to the platform as this year's critic's darling. aaaawwwww. With a honkin' piece in NOW magazine, and picks from the Globe and Mail, Toronto Star, and Toronto Sun, NQ Arbuckle's CMW showcase was a huge success. All in the name of world peace. Yay, Nev! To celebrate we are planning to binge on hot buttered yams and practice the elusive "forward moonwalk"...maybe....

Catch him if you can, he's quick:

Mar 18 • Zaphod's, Ottawa, solo, opening for Luke Doucet, tix $8.
Mar 19 • Merchant McLiam, Kingston, opening for Luke Doucet, tix $5.
Mar 20 • Le Petit Campus, Montreal, OFFICIAL MONTREAL CD RELEASE, with full band.
Mar 29 • El Mocambo, Toronto, with band, opening for the Waifs.

LUKE DOUCET

Luke just can't stop his purdy lil' sculpted nails from twiddling the wires of his git fiddle. After being left with excessive rock n roll build-up in his liver from veal's recent tour of edmonton, Luke is playing some cleansing solo shows. Gaze lovingly and pensively at Luke at the following establishments:

Mar 7 • Railway Club, Vancouver, with full band, tix $10. Veal producer Steven Drake (a.k.a. Phil Harmonic) opens.
Mar 18 • Zaphod's, Ottawa, solo, with NQ Arbuckle opening, tix $8.
Mar 19 • Merchant McLiam, Kingston, solo, with NQ Arbuckle opening, tix $5.
Mar 20 • Le Petit Campus, Montreal, solo, double bill with NQ Arbuckle.
Mar 27 • Horseshoe Tavern, Toronto, with full band, double bill with Eleni Mandell, tix, $10.

VEAL

Veal loves Edmonton. So much that Luke is threatening to get a 780 tattoo to match Nik's. We shot the video for "I Hate Your Lipstick" for the new album, THE EMBATTLED HEARTS (coming soon!!! really!!!).....Nik, unprepared for the intense aerobic workout of playing the same song for 8 hours straight has been left with a variety of steamin' hot blisters. Next time he'll think to wear legwarmers like Chang did.

The video shoot went really well, but it wouldn't have if it weren't for the following amazing Edmontonians whom we thank with all of our embattled hearts: Jeremy Chugg, Ashley Chugg, Aimee Hill, Lisa Fryklund, Ben Stevenson, Graeme MacKinnon, John Watson, Nico Everhart, Tanya Corbin, Michelle Bourgeois, Laurel Mackie, Rachelle Charrois, Bridget Smatlan, Leah Gies, Chelsea Jackman, Kasey Pettit, Jamie Molnar, Lucy Gburzynski, Michelle Clarke, Brent Oliver, Cafe Mosaics, Black Dog, Avenue Guitars, and the staff at Commonwealth Stadium. yeehaw, who wants to listen to "i hate your lipstick" a few hundred more times?!

CAPTAIN TRACTOR

LIVERDANCE! Speaking of Edmonton, join us for Captain Tractor's Annual St. Patrick's Day Bash, this year on March 15 @ Nashville's, WEM, Edmonton. Your liver certainly won't thank you, but your ears will. That reminds me of a story... this one time when one of the writers of this newsletter was much younger he (or she) had a little stuffed teddy bear. Since it was up to him (or her) what the bear would be named, he (or she) named the bear after something said individual loved... and so the bear was named liver. No wonder Nik (or Shauna...) is vegetarian.

MARTIN TIELLI

Martin is also coming out with a new album, titled OPERATION INFINITE JOY, which will likely be out in May. I think Martin is going to achieve the stated goals of "confusing people even more" and "making Queen look tame". Members of Queen have issued a response which reads along the lines of "oh yeah, well you haven't seen our new outfits!"

It is going to be both confusing and fantastic, which of course means that it's going to be late. I know we mentioned an April 1st mailout for the first edition of TIELLI 2003, but you just can't rush great art...unless you are in a really big hurry (which we aren't, you gotta chill dude). So, uh, sorry but it'll be worth the wait. Please note that two versions of this album will be made - one for the fancy ass collector's series, and a somewhat less fancy version for commercial release. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, please wise up and visit www.martintielli.com to learn all about the 2003 series.

Martin was the recipient of a brand new guitar, given to him by the fine brothers of Abacus Capo (www.abacuscapo.com). Their new invention, with a steel fretboard, and individual string capos made from NASA magnets (?!), has already given Martin hours of guitar wank delight. Thank you Chris and Jon.

Martin's performance on CBC's ZED will be aired March 13th, and we're going to attempt to conduct an on-line chat afterwards (http://zed.cbc.ca)...let's hope, anyway...does anyone know how to turn on this interweb thingy? Technology isn't always our friend in these situations, but we're going to give it a shot. Also, Zed is going to air the video for "I'll Never Tear You Apart" on March 10th. If you haven't seen it yet, the video is sooooo good so tune in!

CHRISTINE FELLOWS

Christine has recovered from her frostbite, and has just returned from a post-festival community tour in the Yukon, organized by her Frostbite homies. It was indeed a fantastic experience and a cultural exchange. Check www.christinefellows.com for pics, or show up uninvited at her house for a three hour slide tape presentation.

Also tune into CBC Radio's "Sounds like Canada" program to hear "All for a song", a CBC national lyric writing contest for which Christine was a juror and composed music for the winning entries. It airs live on Monday, March 10th.

Beauty on like the wolf,
