NQ ARBUCKLE

Join us for NQ's official Toronto CD release party: Nov. 2 at the Rivoli, pay-what-you-can.

Says producer Luke Doucet, 'Remember the scene in Sling Blade where Dwight Yoakam leads the drunken band through a set on the porch while Vic Chestnutt heckles? If Vic had recorded with that band, the results would've sounded like this.'

Whoop it up on a hasty hot evening with nq arbuckle at the mixkin dancehall that is the Rivoli on Saturday, November 2nd to toast the release of our dear Nev's inaugural release, Hanging the Battle-scarred Piñata...an album full of punk rockers, drunken sailors, outlaws, gunslingers, young lovers, strong swimmers, intelligent friends, swaggarts, braggarts, chainsmokers, and a myriad of Muriels. You'll feel right at home.

LUKE DOUCET + VEAL

If it's true that there is no rest for the wicked, then our dear Luke is a bad bad boy indeed (Nik, on the other hand, must be a real angel since he is spending the month relaxing on beaches in southern Europe). Check this:

VANCOUVER: The Railway Club, Nov. 2, with Keith Rose (bass) and Ike
Idesness (drums); Jack Harlan opening. $10.
EDMONTON: The Black Dog, Nov. 6, with Jonny Nordstrom (bass) and

Later, Luke re-joins his Vealmates for a couple of rauckus rockers:

TORONTO: The Rivoli, Nov. 30
NEW YORK CITY: The Mercury Lounge, Dec. 4 (to be confirmed)
BUFFALO: The Tralf, Dec. 5+6, opening for the Lowest of the Low

CHRISTINE FELLOWS

In France they don't have slurpees (although you will see the occasional baguette and brie blender surprise). Darling Christine did a proverbial dropkick onto the proverbial head of Ottawa a couple of weeks ago, and is now ready to lift the ol' landing gear one more time to play in the now Annual Rheostatics Horseshoe Run, where participating artists strap dozens of horseshoes to their backs and do wind sprints on Queen Street, just to prove how tough it is to be a musician these days:

TORONTO: The Horseshoe Tavern, Nov. 13-15, opening for the Rheostatics
WINNIPEG: The Gas Station Theatre, Nov. 16, with John Samson, opening for
Veda Hille

SIX SHOOTER BULLETS

  • As mentioned above, don't miss the Rheostatics Annual Horseshoe Tavern Run: Nov. 13-26, Toronto. And for those of you who have made inquiries: no, sadly, Martin will not be opening for the Rheos on any of these dates.

  • Party on with Captain Tractor while Edmonton hosts Grey Cup '02. Essskieees!!! Edmonton's favourite band plays The Rev on Nov. 22. We're proud to have the fabulous Farrell Brothers on the bill...rockabilly twins from Selkirk, MB...can't beat that!

  • Special thanks and feet kissing to Laura, who somehow managed to juggle her strenuous school and work schedule to find time to upload dozens of new records on www.lodestarmusic.com, just so you could click in time for Christmas. Yay.

Beauty on,
Shauna (and Nikki Sevenn)
