July 2002

raise your hand if you do what you're told

Hola! July is a month where we take it easy...aside from the occasional festival appearance, most of the Sixshoota posse are sticking close to home, probably so that they can spend more leisure time in their speedos running through sprinklers and sipping scotch. In this issue:

  1. Luke Doucet gives Danny Michel a wedgie!

  2. Christine Fellows has landed

  3. Captain Tractor keeps it real

  4. Martin Tielli lurks in the shadows

  5. NQ Arbuckle skydives into the lap of a party girl!

1. LUKE DOUCET/VEAL

GIMLI, MB: Harbourfront, July 6, afternoon show
WINNIPEG: solo on July 3 at Air Canada Park (noon show) and with a band on July 7, CBC Stage (evening show)...both are part of the Get Together Downtown festival in Winnipeg.
BRANDON, MB: July 27-28, Brandon Folk Festival

Also Luke played with Danny Michel at Edgefest on July 1 and will be playing with Oh Susanna in Winnipeg on July 6.

August brings the first taste of the new Veal record, though only for those of you who still own record players (hopefully all of you). We're releasing a 7 inch single for Lipstick/Defiler, and mounting a three-nation tour in late August and early September.

Watch for dates in your area, the rock and roll will slay you!

2. CHRISTINE FELLOWS

WINNIPEG: July 7, Get Together Downtown, CBC Stage
WINDSOR, ON: July 25, Press Club
GUELPH, ON: July 26-28, Hillside Festival

Christine is also working on the music for a CBC documentary called "Landed", produced by Andy Blicq, and they are recording this week. It will air on CBC tv in the fall, and it looks just beautiful. So does Christine.
*Blush*.

3. CAPTAIN TRACTOR

GRANDE PRAIRIE, AB: July 6, South Peace Ball
FORT MCLEOD, AB: July 20, South Country Fair, 3 pm
EDMONTON, AB: July 25, Sir Winston Churchill Square, Klondike Days, 8:30 pm

Note: The South Country Fair show features CT's original line up with the Smook AND Aimee. This is what the kids call "old skool flava". What's more, a couple of the Tractor boys will be your hosts all night Saturday.

4. MARTIN TIELLI

Martin is working on building himself a shroud of mystery, so he isn't doing any live shows, but for those of you that want to pretend, you can tune into a live taping of Martin's recent Toronto show on July 27th at 10pm on CBC'S Just Concerts (www.justconcerts.com). If you really want to pretend you should put on the tightest acid wash jeans you can find, slam a few brewskis, and air-guitar furiously until you pass out.

Also keep your eyes peeled for the creepily beautiful video Martin just made with vid god Justin Stephenson for I'll Never Tear You Apart. I doubt MuchMusic would ever have the balls to put it in rotation, but Bravo! will be all over it.

5. NQ ARBUCKLE

NQ flies to BC to jump on a couple opening slots with the west coast's one and only goddess of the hoot and holler, Carolyn Mark:

VANCOUVER: July 5, The Railway Club
VICTORIA: July 7, at Carolyn's Hootenanny at Thursdays

He'll have a couple of advance copies of his new disc, Hanging the Battle-Scarred Pinata, which won't be in stores until the fall. Pick one up and be cooler than the other kids on your block!

Beauty On,

Shauna
