1. VEAL/LUKE DOUCET

Six Shooter keeps it real with the release of its first ever 7 inch vinyl slab. The new soundtrack to your bedroom air guitar freak out sessions features two brand new Veal recordings: "I hate your lipstick" and "Defiler". By mid-August, you can pick it up at your local independent music stores, at shows, or through www.lodestarmusic.com. And, hell yeah, they're touring:

SEATTLE: Aug. 30, Experience Music Project
VANCOUVER: Aug. 31, Picadilly
VICTORIA: Sept. 1, Lucky's
CALGARY: Sept. 4, Liberty Lounge
EDMONTON: Sept. 5, Power Plant
HAMILTON: Sept. 6, The Cashbah
TORONTO: Sept. 7, The Horseshoe Tavern
NEW YORK: Sept. 17, Arlene's Grocery
BUFFALO: Sept. 19, Neitches
LONDON, UK: Sept. 25, Buffalo Bar, and Sept. 26, Studio Club, both tbc

We're still working on the Ontario and Quebec routing, so we'll have dates confirmed for the next newsletter. Meanwhile, you can check www.vealmusic.com for updates. Also, Veal will be heading overseas for a show or two in London, England the last week in September. Stay tuned. Nik is freaking out.

Before this three-nation Vealquake, Luke Doucet makes a couple Ontario festival appearances:

HAMILTON: Aug. 10, Festival of Friends, 1:00 pm.
TORONTO: Taste of Danforth, 3:50 - 4:40 pm.

Both dates with a rock solid rhythm section provided by Bazil Donovan and Paul Brennan.

Also, if for some reason you are in Edmonton on August 3rd, be sure to check out the final farewell performance of Nik's crazy punk rock band, The Cleats.

2. CHRISTINE FELLOWS

Christine plays in her own backyard this month with two appearances:

WINNIPEG: Aug. 15, Old Market Square, noon show
REGINA: Aug. 16-17, Regina Folk Festival

Seeing as it is her own backyard, there have been rumours of Christine rocking a solo on the electric BBQ.

3. CAPTAIN TRACTOR

Captain Tractor headlines a 5-band fiesta called "Players Pit Stop Challenge", a side event of the Molson Indy (Jules dream gig), in CALGARY on Aug. 3 (which, incidently, is Brock Skywalker Day). Free admission, 18+ only.

Captain Tractor plays the first ever Waynefest, known as a really complicated kitchen party on the weekend of Sept. 6-8: great music backdropped by the picturesque badlands of Alberta (as opposed to an actual kitchen). Brock calls it the coolest party around, mostly because he loooves hoodoos. For more info, visit www.waynefest.com.

4. SIX SHOOTER BULLETS

  • MARTIN TIELLI video release. I know I keep talking about Martin's great new video...it'll finally be released to all the various music stations in the country in August. We think Bravo! will be the only station that will actually play it, so we'll also stream it on to Martin's site. It'll just be a teensy weensy version... not nearly as bombastic as on the small screen...but you'll get the picture. Request it like crazy and be one of the cool kids. Oh, and tune in tonight to CBC Just Concerts to hear a recording of Martin live at Lee's Palace.

  • BE IN A MOVIE. Hey, this might be your chance to be a huge movie star... or at least live the background artist dream they spoof all the time on MadTV. GOLDIROCKS (a Toronto Indie film by Paula Tiberius... check out www.goldirocks.com) needs extras to fill Lee's Palace for a show featuring Robin Black and the Intergallactic Rock Stars, Sticky Rice, The Chickens, and Cheerleader. The dates are Sunday August 11th, Monday August 12th, and Tuesday August 13th @ Lees Palace 529 Bloor St. West, Toronto. For fame and fortune, call or e-mail Tina at 647-885-4653 or stinkerware@rogers.com.

  • NQ UP SOON. It's going to happen. And sooner rather than later. NQ Arbuckle readies for the release of his solo debut in September. It was produced by Luke Doucet, and features star-studded guest appearances from the likes of Carolyn Mark, James Grey, Sarah Slean, John Dinsmore, Howard Redekopp, and Chang. Three Gut grand dame Tyler Burke is now masterminding the artwork. Pick up a pack of smokes and a bottle of scotch and brace yourselves.

  • SHHH. Those of you who happen to be living in the Toronto area are invited to attend a "secret" Weakerthans show on Sunday July 28 at the Rivoli. Oh wait, it's a secret... nevermind... if anyone asks, we didn't have this conversation. Tickets are $10 and available at the door only...but you didn't hear it here. The goddess herself, Christine Fellows, opens. I can't keep secrets very well. Hopefully you can't either and you'll tell everyone you know. It feels good to be in the know doesn't it?

Beauty on,
Shauna (and Nik)
