CHRISTINE FELLOWS
It's cold here in Winnipeg, but things are cookin' for our dear CF, who performs her official CD release show of "The last one standing" at the West End Cultural Centre with her amazing band, Monica Guenter (violin), Leanne Zacharias (cello), and Jason Tait (drums). Guest appearances by Steve Carroll and John K. Samson are also in the works. Can't wait! MARTIN TIELLI
The Sixshooter office is abuzz with the much treasured re-release of "Circo" by Nick Buzz, an album made by Martin and pals (Jon Goldsmith, Rob Piltch, and Hugh Marsh) some six years ago. Circo is also available stores on March 5, and at www.lodestarmusic.com and www.maplemusic.com as well. Step inside. Don't be shy.
Martin is hard at work rehearsing with his band, which for the March run includes Barry Mirochnick (drums), Greg Smith (bass), and west coast outlaw Ford Pier (guitar/keyboards). Don't miss it:

Martin is also working with Operation Infinite Justice (that's the sometime name of his fab band) on his next solo recording, which takes place in May/June and aims for a fall release. Jon Goldsmith will produce.
LUKE DOUCET/VEAL
After a nearly a month of preproduction with fellow Vealmates, Nik Kozub (bass) and Chang (drums), and more recently with the emminent producer Steve Drake, Veal officially starts recording their new and most deadly record to date at Greenhouse Studios in Vancouver. The boys are taking a break in midstream to head down to Austin for SxSW on March 16, and even we managed to fit a few performances into their hectic schedule. The true two-headed gemini that is Luke will be showing his riveting roots side and his hard-driving rock-and-roll side with two upcoming shows in Vancouver:
Veal: Thurs. Mar 7 at The Railway Club
Luke Doucet: Sat. Mar 30 at Richard's on Richards, with Martin Tielli
The Vancouver show will kick off a national tour in April with Luke Doucet, this time with a band, featuring material from his excellent solo debut, Aloha, Manitoba. Dates & venues will follow in the next newsletter.
CAPTAIN TRACTOR
March is the month of St. Patrick's Day, which for Captain Tractor is bigger than new year's eve and the superbowl put together (but not bigger than both the Canadian men's and women's hockey teams winning gold). To celebrate, the boys are doing a bunch of hot shows in March:
GRANDE PRAIRIE: Mar 1-3 at the Hammerhead Bar & Grill
EDMONTON: Sat. Mar 16 for the Annual St. Patty's Day bash at Red's, with Paul Bellows
CALGARY: Sun. Mar 17 at the Whiskey, with long time friends and fellow pranksters, the Plaid Tongued Devils (who, by the way, have just released a fantastic CD)
REGINA: Thurs. Mar 21 at the Pump
SASKATOON: Fri. Mar 22 at the Odeon
CANMORE: Sat. Mar 23 at the Drake
MIA SHEARD
Mia is still up to her eyeballs in the stunning new record she's making. The session at Chemical went really well, with lots of live-off-the-floor stuff, and now Mia and the troops are finishing it up in various locales. Photos of the studio experience will be posted soon on Mia's website (www.miasheard.com). Thanks to all of you who came out to her show at the Rivoli...and watch for a short tour of Ontario coming up in April with Jason Collett, Bob Kemmis, and Josh Findlayson (the Skydiggers).
Hamilton folks, don't miss Mia's upcoming show on March 7 at the Raven.
SIX SHOOTER BULLETS
Both Christine Fellows and Veal are showcasing at SxSW in Austin this year, amidst a wealth of Canadian talent, such as the three gut records posse of Royal City and the Constantines. All out of this world. Check out their showcase presented by NxNE at BD Rileys on Saturday, March 16:
8 pm Christine Fellows
9 pm Royal City
10 pm The Constantines
11 pm Luke Doucet and Veal
12 am The Dears
1 am The Sadies
Luke will also likely be playing a solo set at the NxNE/Manitoba Film & Sound BBQ on Friday afternoon. Check his website for updates.
And don't miss the wonderful Richard Buckner in Austin on Thursday, March 14 @ midnight at the Austin Scottish Rite Theatre.OK, I lied. www.sixshooterrecords.com has not been launched, but Linda assures us that we'll have it together by mid-month. Really, though, what's the rush...all of our fine titles can be ordered through www.lodestarmusic.com.
The Veal boys are already brainstorming on the artwork of their yet to be recorded disc, and are looking for help from a writer who is fluent in Japanese. Know anyone? Write me.
Beauty on,
Shauna
