NQ ARBUCKLE
We're a little battle-scarred ourselves getting ready for the launch of NQ Arbuckle's debut release, "Hanging the Battle-Scarred Pinata", but no matter, we're so excited, we think we're going to pee our collective pants. This record kicks! As producer Luke Doucet puts it: "Remember the scene in Sling Blade where Dwight Yoakam leads the drunken band through a set on the porch while Vic Chestnutt heckles? If Vic had recorded with that band, the results would've sounded like this." Street date is now September 24th. But we should have the finished record in hand for a string of dates he's doing with that Terrible Hostess, Carolyn Mark:
KINGSTON: Sept 17, Merchant McLean
WAKEFIELD: Sept 19, Black Sheep Inn
GUELPH: Sept 20, Bubba Gib's
WATERLOO: Sept 21, Jane Bond
HAMILTON: Sept 22, The Underground
Watch for more dates, coming soon.
SIX SHOOTER BULLETS
The accolades continue for the beautiful CHRISTINE FELLOWS with two nominations for the Prairie Music Awards, held this year on September 30th in Winnipeg at the Walker Theatre. Christine plays that weekend in her home town as part of the Winnipeg Writer's Festival at the MTYP on September 27th.
MARTIN TIELLI will take time out from his writing binge to play the Halifax Pop Explosion the first week of October, his first solo show on the east coast ever. Don't miss it!
And for those of you who need a mini Martin-fix, check out one of his summer projects, a collaboration with the Instant Klazzix dudes (Greg Smith has been telling me about this for months, and I finally just checked it out): http://artists3.iuma.com/IUMA/Bands/Instant_Klazzix/. If that doesn't work, try going to http://www.instantklazzix.com and navigate through. Martin plays on "Mary Buckets" and "Diamonds On His Toes".
With all this fab new merch on hand (including long lost copies of their debut album, "Hot Loser"), VEAL needs help at the merch table. We're looking for friendly faces in Seattle, Vancouver, Victoria, Calgary, Kingston, Ottawa, and Buffalo to lend a hand. If you're willing and able, please let me know.
Beauty on,
Shauna
